    Description

I hope you can see these pieces well enough to see what they are. I assumed they were carved, when I found them. I realize now they must be debossed, or pressed. The first one shown here is the title piece "Centennial Exposition" in an arc across the top and "Machinery Hall" at bottom. It's my guess that these were produced at Machinery Hall and used as souvenirs. The second is "Agricultural Hall", then "Horticultural Hall", "Memorial Hall" and lastly a blank that has nothing on it (maybe as a sample). These were the main buildings at the Centennial. Sixty Two countries were represented and it was held in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. 10,000,000 visitors attended. Inventions introduced at the fair were the typewriter, sewing machine and telephone. This was the first official World's Fair to be held in the United States, and was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence...May 10, 1876.
