    Mexican Folk Art Dia De los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Hanging Cross. Condition is New.
    Day of the Dead is an interesting holiday celebrated in central and southern Mexico during the chilly days of November 1 & 2. Even though this coincides with the Catholic holiday called All Soul's & All Saint’s Day, the indigenous people have combined this with their own ancient beliefs of honoring their deceased loved ones.
    They believe that the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31, and the spirits of all deceased children (angelitos) are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. On November 2, the spirits of the adults come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared for them.
    Each cross is made at Turquoise Trail Studio in New Mexico, USA, just off the turquoise trail.  Each cross has it's own unique name and is signed. 7.5 by 10 inches at longest points.
    Turquoise Trail Crosses are a mixed media assemblage wall art form made from vintage and modern jewelry, but can also include re-purposed treasures such as ornaments, belt buckles, a sardine can, bottle caps and more. Each cross is one of a kind, no two are exactly the same. I start with a painted wood base and proceed to hand layer the jewelry and recycled treasures one piece at a time. The up-cycled items are mounted on wood and depending on the size have either a wire,saw-tooth hanger or drilled keyhole for hanging on the wall or in a frame or shadow box. Prices vary by size and amount and type of materials used.
    A special remembrance cross from your jewelry, or a themed cross for someone special in your life can also be made by placing a custom order.
    Please Note: This cross contains small pieces and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
    I use USPS Priority, (unless cross is under 1 lb) which includes insurance on your item and a tracking number. I prefer this shipping method so the cross arrives in excellent condition. There will be a tracking number using USPS First Class.
