After replacing the Electronic Throttle Body, some vehicles may turn on the “check engine light” with fluctuating or higher then normal idle speed.
The computer is unable to adjust idle speed because of the difference in readings comparedto the previous ETB. It will be necessary to erase the trouble codes and proceed with the computer relearn of the new current closed throttle position.
Using a bidirectional scan tool:
1. First, erase all the trouble codes in the computer memory.
2. Find the throttle position (TP) and reset the learning value.
Proceed with the following
for the new idle learn:
1. Turn all electrical components off (A/C, lights, fans).
2. Turn the ignition switch “ON” and wait 2 seconds.
3. Start the engine.
4. Ensure the transmission is in the Park or Neutral position, then maintain engine speed at 3000 rpm.
5. Hold engine speed until the radiator fan comes “on” or that the engine temperature reaches 194°F (90°C).
6. Return to idle and let the engine run 5 minutes with the accelerator pedal released.
7. Return to the scan tool and look if the idle learn data procedure is complete.
NOTE:
If the check engine light comes back
on again with the same code related to idle speed or intake air system leak, perform normal troubleshooting procedure and inspect all possible air leaks at the engine.
