Idle Relearn Instruction Procedure
After The Replacement Of The Electronic Throttle Body It Will Be Necessary To Perform An Idle Air Volume Relearn Procedure.
WARNING
1.If the idle air relearn is not performed after the replacement, irregular engine idle speed or stall.
2.Accurately follow the instructions as specific actions are required to be performed within a few seconds.
3.Before proceeding with the instructions Ensure the engine as no vacuum leaks and the PCV valve is functioning properly.
Before performing the Idle Air Relearn producer:
1. Bring the engine to normal operating temperature ( minimum 185°F / 85°C).
2. Make sure the charging system is working correctly (12.9Volts and more at idle).
3. All accessories must be turned off (A/C,headlamps,rear window defogger etc.).
4. Ensure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead (No power steering effort).
5. If equipped with daytime running light system, apply the hand brake before turning the ignition switch to the ON position, this will automatically turn the headlights OFF.
Performing the Idle Air Volume Relearn:
1. With the engine at normal operating temperature,turn the engine OFF for a minimum of 10 seconds before proceeding with the relearn procedure.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (DO NOT START THE ENGINE).
3. After 3 seconds, fully depress and release the accelerator pedal 5 times within 5 seconds.
4. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator and hold it depressed for 20 seconds.
5. The “Check Engine Light” will start to blink.
6. When the “Check Engine Light” stops blinking, release the accelerator pedal.
7. Start the engine :
a) For Automatic transmission, hold brake pedal and put selector in reverse for a minimum of 1 minute.
b) For Manual transmission, drive
vehicle for 10 minutes for relearn.
If Idle Air Volume Relearn did not stabilize the engine, restart the procedure from the beginning.
