HERE I AM OFFERING A VERY, VERY RARE, LIGHTLY USED, VINTAGE, FULLTIN, FICTION DRIVEN "UNITED AIRLINES MAINLINER DC-7" WHICH IS MADE IN JAPAN AND IS UNBRANDED (NO HALLMARK, MANUFACTURERS ID OR MARKINGS OTHER THEN "MADE IN JAPAN").
THIS "DC-7" IS IN VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT OVERALL SHAPE/CONDITION WITH VERY .... VERY FEW SIGNS OF ANY ABUSE OR PLAY WEAR.
THE WEAR THIS PLANE DOES SHOW IS FROM PLAY WEAR, BUT THIS WEAR IS VERY LIGHT TO COMPARED WITH NORMALLY USED TOYS OF THIS ERA.

I PURCHASED THIS FROM A FRIEND OF MINE IN CHICAGO WHO ONCE HAD A MASSIVE COLLECTION OF TIN AND PLASTIC VINTAGE ASIAN MADE TOYS AND MODELS. THIS WAS PURCHASED FROM HIM BACK IN 1985 AND THEN PLACED INTO MY COLLECTION AND THERE IT HAS STAYED!

IS STILL IN IT'S ORIGINAL BOX.
AND THE BOX ITSELF DOES SHOW SOME WEAR, MORE ON THIS LATER.
THIS PLANE HAS A WINGSPAN OF AROUND 11 INCHES (28CM) AND IS SLIGHTLY UNDER 11 INCHES (28CM) IN LENGTH. THE WINGS, TAIL AND FUSELAGE ARE ALL NICELY MARKED WITH REALISTIC "UNITED AIRLINES" MARKINGS OF THE ERA.
THE ENTIRE PLANE IS MADE OF TIN AND ALL OF THE GRAPHICS THAT YOU SEE ARE DONE VIA TIN LITHOGRAPHY.
THE UNDERSIDE OF THIS PLANE DOES SHOW SOME VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL PLAYWEAR AS SHOULD BE EXPECTED FROM A TOY WHICH WAS PLAYED WITH AND IS NOT BEING REPRESENTED AS NOS (NEW OLD STOCK).
THE WHEELS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE AND SHOW NO CRACKS, DRY-ROT OR FLAT SPOTS. THE TWO (2) LARGER RUBBER FRONT TWO (2) WHEELS POWER THIS PLANE WITH A STRONG AND ORIGINAL FRICTION DRIVE. WHILE THE TIN, THIRD AND REAR SINGLE WHEEL SIMPLY KEEPS THE REAR OF THIS AIRCRAFT FROM DRAGGING IT'S A$$ ON THE TARMAC.
THE FRICTION DRIVE IS CONNECTED TO THE PROPELLER VIA AN OUTDATED PINION AND GEAR DRIVE. THIS ALLOWS THE PROPELLER TO SPIN FREELY WHEN THE FRICTION DRIVE IS ENGAGED. I DID TRY TO PICTURE THE PROPELLERS SPINNING, WHICH IS A TOUGH TASK AS THESE PROPELLERS DO SPIN, BUT DO SO ERRATICALLY DUE TO THEIR AGE AND DESIGN.
THE FUSELAGE OF THIS PLANE HAS NO RUST OR CORROSION. IT DOES HAVE A SINGLE DIMPLE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE JUST PAST THE WINGS. THIS IS SHOWN IN THE MAIN PICTURE. YOU DO HAVE CLEAR ACCESS TO THE INSIDE SECTION OF THIS AREA (PRIOR TO PLACING THE WINGS ON) .. SO IF YOU HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE CORRECT TOOLS, THIS DING CAN BE REMOVED.
THE BOX IS IN GOOD OVERALL SHAPE/CONDITION
. ITS LID AND BASE
DO SHOW SOME WEAR FROM BEING STORED FOR MANY DECADES
AND IT DOES HAVE SOME SLIGHT SIGNS OF SHELF RASHING AND A MISSING CORNER. NO GLUE HAS EVER BEEN ADDED TO THIS BOX, BUT, YOU DO HAVE ADDED TAPE ON THE CORNERS AND SOME ADDED TAPE ON THE SIDE PANELS.
TO USE THIS PLANE IS LIKE ANY OTHER FRICTION DRIVEN MODEL. YOU MUST APPLY SLIGHT PRESSURE DOWNWARDS WHILE YOU PUSH IT FORWARDS. THE FASTER YOU PERFORM THIS ACTION, THE FASTER (AND TRADITIONALLY) THE LONGER THE FRICTION DRIVE WILL WORK.
ONCE AGAIN, WITH THIS PLANE YOU HAVE THE ADDED FEATURE OF HAVING THE PROPELLER SPIN WHEN THE FRICTION DRIVE IS ENGAGED. BUT, AGAIN ONE MUST REMEMBER THAT THIS IS ALSO VINTAGE TECHNOLOGY AT IT'S FINEST HERE AND AS SUCH, YOU CAN NOT EXPECT IT'S MECHANICAL DESIGN TO BE PERFECT (CAUSE IT AIN'T!! ...LOL)!
